May 18, 2023 | Wrestling
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - North Carolina wrestler Cade Lautt heads west this weekend to Colorado, representing the Tar Heel Wrestling Club at the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge on Saturday.
Lautt, who just completed his redshirt-freshman season for the Tar Heels, is one of four wrestlers in the 97 KG Greco Roman division competing for the final spot at Final X next month. The World Team Trials and Final X, held June 9 and 10 in New Jersey, help determine the final 2023 United States Senior World Team roster.
At last month's US Open in Las Vegas, Lautt earned his spot in the World Team Trials with a seventh-place effort.
On day one, Lautt would win his first two matches, 8-0 and 7-4, respectively, however the Olathe, Kan. native would stumble in the quarterfinals, 10-0. After moving to the consolation bracket, Lautt would respond with a 12-0 victory to secure his top-eight finish.
In his seventh place match, Lautt would collect a 13-2 technical fall, to conclude his tournament in the Sin City.
