Men's Golf Tied For 3rd After 36 Holes At NCAA Championship

Dylan Menante Leads UNC With 2nd-Round 70
North Carolina shot 4 over par in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Men's Golf Championship Saturday and climbed one spot to a tie for third after 36 holes of competition at the Grayhawk Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Carolina's Dylan Menante shot an even-par 70, Ryan Burnett and David Ford shot 71s, Peter Fountain posted 72 and Austin Greaser had a 74.
The second-seeded Tar Heels were paired with No. 1 seed Vanderbilt and No. 3 Texas Tech. Carolina shot 284 in the second round, four strokes better than the Commodores and 11 shots better than the Red Raiders.
Illinois compiled the best round of the day, a 7-under-par 273 to take the 36-hole lead at 2-under 558, three strokes ahead of Florida and eight in front of UNC and Georgia Tech. Pepperdine is fifth at 8 over and Vanderbilt is sixth at +10.
Menante led UNC for the second straight day. On Friday he led the entire field with eight birdies en route to a 68. Today, he had a team-high five birdies and was 4 under through 11 holes but triple bogeyed the par-4 12th hole and finished at even par. The senior from Carlsbad, Calif., is tied for fifth place in the individual standings at 2-under 138.
Georgia Tech's Ross Steelman (64-69) has the individual lead for the second day in a row at 7-under 133.
Ford is tied for 19th at 1-over 141.
Round three is Sunday. The top 15 teams in the 30-team field after Sunday's third round make the cut for Monday's fourth and final round of stroke play.
