U.S. Amateur Run Ends In Round Of 16

Virginia's Ben James, the 2023 ACC Freshman of the Year, pulled even on the 18th hole and made a birdie to win the first extra hole to defeat 2023 ACC Player of the Year David Ford of North Carolina in the U.S. Amateur round of 16 Thursday at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado.
Neither player led by more than a hole during the match and there were four lead changes. Ford won the 17th hole to take a 1 up lead, but James won the next two holes to advance to Friday's quarterfinal.
Maxwell Ford was eliminated 5&4 in the round of 16 by Florida's Parker Bell.
Thursday morning, Maxwell Ford beat North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik, a three-time collegiate All-America, 3&2, and David Ford routed Grant Smith, 6&4, in the round of 32.
LSU's Connor Gaunt defeated Austin Greaser, 3&2, in the round of 32.
