McNeil, Ramos Prepped For World Championships

BELGRADE, SERBIA – North Carolina wrestling redshirt-sophomore Lachlan McNeil and Tar Heel alum Ethan Ramos are set to compete in the 2023 World Wrestling Championships, beginning this weekend.
Representing Canada at 65 KG, McNeil continues a busy few months after earning a fourth-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
In the offseason, McNeil has collected NWCA Scholar All-America and Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team recognitions, and competed at the Stepen Sargsyan Cup (Yerevuen, Armenia) and Polyak Imre & Vargas Janos (Budapest, Hungary), as well as winning the Grand Prix of Spain (Madrid, Spain) at 65 KG.
McNeil will compete at the Senior level at the World Championships for the second-straight year, after finishing 20th last September. In 2021, McNeil claimed an eighth-place showing at the Junior level event.
In August, McNeil was selected to represent Team Canada at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
Ramos will represent Puerto Rico at 86 KG for the third-straight championships. Last year, Ramos earned a fifth-place effort in his respective weight class, after collecting a seventh-place showing the year prior.
During his time at UNC from 2013-18, Ramos was a two-time ACC Champion at 174-pounds, collecting All-America status in 2015.
The 2023 World Wrestling Championships takes place September 16-24, with action streamed live on FloWrestling.
