Multiple Tar Heels Pick Up Day One Victories

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The North Carolina women's tennis team began their 2023-2024 campaign yesterday when it hosted day one of the Kitty Harrison Invitational at Chewning Tennis Center.
The invitational is broken up into three singles brackets and three doubles brackets with each player and doubles team promised four matches over the course of the weekend.
In the "Navy" singles pool, Reese Brantmeier went 2-0 on the day after she won 6-0, 6-2 in the first round followed by a 6-2, 7-6 victory in the second round. Senior Sara McClure dropped her first round bout but quickly responded with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the second round.
In the "White" singles pool, Carson Tanguilig quickly advanced to the third round when she won 6-3, 6-0 in the first round and 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Newcomer Thea Rabman picked up her first collegiate victory with a 7-6, 6-1 first round win.
In the "Blue" singles pool, Reilly Tran picked up a first round victory after winning 6-4, 6-1. Teammate Lindsay Zink fell in a hard-fought first round battle, 6-7, 1-6.
In doubles action, the pair of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty won 8-1 in the "Tar" doubles pool. Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda advanced after winning 8-1 in the "Heel" doubles pool and Thea Rabman and Reilly Tran fell 8-9 in the "Ram" Doubles pool.
Day two of the Kitty Harrison Invitational continues today at 9 a.m. at the Chewning Tennis Center and admission is free for all spectators.
