Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational Day Two

David Ford Wins Hogan At Colonial, UNC Fourth
October 1, 2024 | Men's Golf
North Carolina senior David Ford shot a final-round 67, his third straight round in the 60s, to win the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The win was Ford's third as a Tar Heel, adding the Hogan at Colonial Country Club to his collection of collegiate titles with the Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club (Juno Beach, Fla.) and the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club (Wilmington, N.C.). He won the Stephens Cup as a sophomore and the Williams Cup last season.
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native beat Auburn's Brendan Valdes, a first-team All-America last season, by three strokes.
Ford, a three-time All-ACC and All-America honoree and member of the 2023 U.S. Walker Cup team, shot 69-65-67 for a total of 9-under 201. It was the fourth time he shot 201 or better in a 54-hole college tournament and the third time he shot in the 60s in all three rounds.
Ford made four birdies and 12 pars today before making his only bogey, which came on the next-to-last hole while holding a four-stroke lead. He was 5 under on par 3 holes for the tournament, which led the field, and was 3 under on the par 5s, which tied for fourth best.
It is the 15th individual title in Andrew DiBitetto's eight seasons as head coach.
Ford led Carolina to a fourth-place finish in a 15-team field that included 12 nationally-ranked teams, including five in the top 10.
The Tar Heels shot 284-274-283 for a 1-over-par 841.
Eighth-ranked Oklahoma won the team title at 10 under par, four strokes better than No. 11 Texas. Top-ranked Auburn was third at 4 under, UNC was fourth, second-ranked Arizona State was fifth, 10 shots behind UNC at 11 over par, and No. 4 Vanderbilt was sixth at +20.
Sophomore Hampton Roberts (72-70-71) tied for 19th at 3-over 213, senior Maxwell Ford (74-69-74) tied for 35th at 7-over 217, junior Keaton Vo (76-70-72) tied for 40th at 8-over 218 and freshman Grant Roscich (69-76-73) also tied for 40th.
The Tar Heels host the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C., October 20-22.
