October 13, 2024 | Women's Golf
Duke's Andie Smith shot a final-round 69 to win the individual title Sunday and lead the Blue Devils to a three-shot win in the 2024 Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
Smith shot 68-66-69, the only player to shoot below par in all three rounds, to finish 7-under 203. It was the first collegiate women's competition at UNC's recently renovated Finley Golf Club.
Smith finished five strokes clear of Wake Forest's Caroline Lopez-Chacarra and seven ahead of UNC's Megan Streicher and NC State's Marie Madsen.
Duke shot even-par 280 in Sunday's third round, the best team score of any round in the three-day tournament. The Blue Devils shot 292-284-280 for a winning score of 16-over-par 856.
Michigan State, which held a three-stroke advantage after 36 holes, tied Wake Forest for runners-up at 19-over 859.
The Tar Heels (292-285-284) briefly led by two shots midway through today's round and finished fourth at 21-over 861, four shots ahead of NC State.
Streicher, a junior from South Africa, shot 71-65-74 for an even-par 210. She has finished third, second and third in Carolina's three tournaments this season.
Ing Iadpluem, Inez Ng and Helen Yeung co-led the UNC effort today with matching even-par 70s, the best rounds of the tournament for all three Tar Heels.
Yeung (74-71-70) moved up eight spots to tie for 11th place at 5-over 215. Reagan Southerland, who matched her best collegiate round Friday with a 69, tied for 30th.
Carolina closes its fall schedule October 25-27 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington.
