Evans & Tanguilig Advance To ITA Regional Round Of 16

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Tatum Evans and Carson Tanguilig both won two matches on Friday to advance to the round of 16 in the singles main draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Evans topped Lucy Hogan of Queens in the opening round on Friday, 6-1, 6-2, before beating Clemson's Artemis Aslanisvili by injury retirement when the score was 6-4, 5-5 late in the second set.

Meanwhile, Tanguilig, the event's #2 seed, beat Wake Forest's Nevena Carton, 7-5, 6-3, in the round of 64 and South Carolina's Jana Stojanova, 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 32.

In other action on Friday, Lindsay Zink won to advance to the round of 32 before losing to Duke's Shavit Kimchi, 6-0, 6-3, in the second round. Alana Boyce dropped her first-round match and lost her first match in the consolation draw.

In doubles play, NC State's Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo blanked Zink and Boyce, 8-0.

On Saturday, Tanguilig and Susanna Maltby will play at 9 a.m. and then play again at 11 a.m. if they win their first match of the day. In singles action, Evans will play at 1 p.m. and Tanguilig at 1:30 p.m.

Action will continue at the ITA Carolina Regional through Monday in Chapel Hill.
