Ford, Streicher Named To NPOY Watch Lists
November 12, 2024 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf
The University of North Carolina is one of seven schools with players on both final fall watch lists for the Haskins Foundation's collegiate golf men's and women's national player of the year awards.
Senior David Ford made the list for the Haskins Award, the men's player of the year award, and junior Megan Streicher was named to the list for the women's player of the year, the Annika Award.
UNC, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas are the seven with at least one player on both lists.
Ford is the No. 1 ranked player in the PGA TOUR U's standings after back-to-back wins in the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and the Williams Cup presented by STITCH at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native is Carolina's all-time scoring average leader (70.44) and is on pace this season (69.17) to break the Tar Heels' single-season average.
The men's team is ranked sixth after winning the Williams Cup over a field that included a pair of top-5 teams in Auburn and Arizona State.
Streicher also is the women's program's all-time scoring leader (72.21) and is on pace to shatter UNC's single-season mark. The South African native averaged 70.33 strokes per round in four fall starts, well below her own school record of 71.83 that she set last season.
Streicher has finished third, second, third and fourth this season and led Carolina to a team title in the Cavalier Regional Preview and a No. 13 national ranking.
Both the men's and women's teams have completed the fall portion of their 2024-25 schedules and will resume competition in February.
