WACO, TEXAS—North Carolina's Carson Tanguilig and Theadora Rabman both won their opening matches in the 2024-25 NCAA Singles Championship on Tuesday, advancing to Wednesday's round of 32 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Ranked #43 nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, Rabman came from behind to beat #75 Guillermina Grant of Georgia on Tuesday afternoon. Grant won the first set, 6-4, but Rabman roared back to seize the win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Rabman will face Denver's Andrea Beltran in Wednesday's second round.
Earlier in the day, the 26th-ranked Tanguilig won in straight sets, topping Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo from Texas, 6-4, 6-3. She advanced to meet Tennessee's #81 Catherine Aulia on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, #55 Piper Charney of Michigan defeated Carolina's Tatum Evans, 6-3, 6-1, in the opening round.
Action at the NCAA Individual Championships will continue on Wednesday with the singles round of 32 and the opening round of doubles. The duos of Tanguilig and Susanna Maltby and Rabman and Evans will begin doubles play.
