The Rams Club Announces Excellence Initiatives
November 21, 2024 | General
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The Rams Club launched two new fundraising initiatives this month aimed at ensuring that Carolina Athletics has the resources for continued success and sustainability of its 28 sport programs. The Carolina Athletics Excellence Fund and the Carolina Athletics Excellence Endowment are strategic investment opportunities that provide short-term and long-term flexibility in a new age of college sports.
The need for flexibility in how gifts from donors might be used is paramount in an era where the needs of an athletics department are changing at an unprecedented pace. As Bubba Cunningham, UNC's Director of Athletics, shared in a recent message, Carolina is finding new ways to adapt and thrive with anticipated changes in revenue sharing, roster sizes and NIL opportunities that create new challenges and opportunities.
The Carolina Athletics Excellence Fund seeks to provide flexible funding in support of Tar Heel student-athletes through gifts that are unrestricted in use and immediately available, allowing Carolina to respond swiftly to current challenges as well as to seize emerging opportunities.
The Carolina Athletics Excellence Endowment takes a longer-term approach with gifts being invested to produce an annual yield that will be used to meet any scholarship needs beyond what The Rams Club's Scholarship Endowment Trust provides – and to meet the variety of funding challenges and opportunities Carolina Athletics will face in the years to come.
"The needs of a college athletics program like Carolina's are rapidly evolving," said John Montgomery, executive director of The Rams Club. "It's essential that we answer the challenges with adaptable solutions. Carolina is – and always has been – focused on excellence and the complete student-athlete experience. This dynamic environment holds a lot of uncertainty, but also promise. We're excited to work with our supporters to help meet the current needs of our programs and ensure a long and successful future for Carolina Athletics and Tar Heel student-athletes."
