CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Tar Heels Carson Tanguilig, Theadora Rabman and Tatum Evans all clinched berths in the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championship in Saturday's action at the ITA East Sectional at the Chewning Tennis Center. Tanguilig earned a singles berth, while Rabman and Evans clinched a doubles bid as a pair.
Tanguilig picked up a three-set victory over Virginia's Elaine Chervinsky on Saturday, advancing to the semifinals of the sectional. She beat Chervinsky, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (5) in Saturday's quarterfinal round at the Chewning Tennis Center. On Sunday, she will meet Kaitlyn Carnicella of South Carolina on Sunday at 10 a.m. in the semis.
Having previously qualified for this month's NCAA Doubles Championship by virtue of her win with Susanna Maltby in the ITA Carolina Regional final on October 21, Tanguilig becomes the first Tar Heel women's player ever to qualify for the NCAA Championship in both singles and doubles four times.
Rabman and Evans topped Virginia's Martina Genis Salas and Annabelle Xu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in the doubles semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The pair will meet Irina Balus and Elizabeth Coleman of Duke on Sunday in the sectional final.
