McNeil Finishes Runner-Up, Ogunsanya & Carrigan Place At Soldier Salute

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Lachlan McNeil (Second) and Joshua Ogunsanya (Fourth) placed for the North Carolina wrestling program, on the final day of Soldier Salute.
McNeil defeated No. 17 Colin Realbuto of Northern Iowa in the semifinal by decision, 7-2, advancing to face Iowa's fourth-ranked Kyle Parco in the title bout.
After falling behind 6-0 in the opening period, McNeil earned an escape in the second frame to trim the deficit to five, 6-1. In the final three minutes, the Toronto, Ontario product collected a takedown on Parco, but fell in the championship match, 8-5.
In the 174-pound semifinal, Ogunsanya was clipped by major decision, 11-3, responding in the consolation bracket with a 20-5 technical fall over Ethan Riddle of Minnesota.
With the win, Ogunsanya would square off against No. 15 Jared Stimma of Northern Iowa, with Stimma collecting the 4-1 decision.
At 165 pounds, true freshman Collin Carrigan would earn an eighth-place finish for the Tar Heels in the two-day affair.
In silver bracket competition on the final day, Elias Navida (Third – 133 pounds), Nick O'Neill (First – 141 pounds), Joey Showalter (Second – 157 pounds) and Jake Dailey (Second – 184 pounds) all placed for Carolina.
Up next, the Tar Heels ring in the New Year traveling to Tennessee for Southern Scuffle (Jan. 4-5).
