Softball Downs UNCG, 6-4, In Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team (6-1) earned a 6-4 victory over UNCG (5-8) in the Tar Heels' home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Carolina is off to its best start to a season since starting the 2012 season 7-0.
The Tar Heels outhit the Spartans 11-7, with nine of Carolina's players recording a hit in the game.
Freshman Kate Bubela led the Tar Heels at the plate, going a career-best 3-of-4 while plating a team-best two runs. Graduate Lexi Godwin hit a three-run home run, her second home run of the season and second multi-RBI game.
Both senior Carsyn Snead and junior Alex Coleman extended their hitting streak to seven, while Autumn Owen reached base for the seventh straight game.
In the circle, redshirt junior Britton Rogers improved to 3-0, allowing just four hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
Sophomore Kenna Raye Dark earned her first career save, getting the Spartans swinging to record the final out of the game.
