Greaser, Fountain Shoot 66, UNC Maintains Lead In Hawai'i

Austin Greaser made two eagles and Peter Fountain made seven birdies as both Tar Heels shot 66s to stake the University of North Carolina to a three-shot lead after 36 holes at the Amer Ari Invitational Friday at the Mauna Lani North Course in Waimea, Hawai'i.
Carolina shot 20-under 268 in the second round and is 46-under 530, three shots ahead of Arizona State and Auburn. Washington is fourth at 38 under and Texas Tech fifth at -37.
Four of the top five teams after 36 holes are among the top seven in the current NCAA rankings, including No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Carolina, No. 5 Washington and No. 7 Arizona State.
Greaser drove the green on the 330-yard par-4 13th hole and made a 20-foot putt for eagle, then made another eagle two holes later on the 498-yard, par-5 15th. He shot 31 on the back nine.
Fountain birdied his first two holes, was 1 under on the front nine then made five birdies and no bogeys to also shoot 31 on the back side. His 66 was his best round since shooting 66 as a freshman in the final round when he won the 2021 ACC Championship.
David Ford and Maxwell Ford both shot 4-under-par 68s and Dylan Menante shot 2-under 70. Hampton Roberts, playing as an individual entry, had a 74.
The Tar Heels broke UNC records for the fewest strokes and lowest score to par in Thursday's first round shooting 26-under 262. Today's 20-under par second round tied the previous record for score to par and 268 strokes equals the fifth-best stroke total in UNC history.
In the player standings, David Ford (63-68) is fifth at 12-under 132, five shots behind ASU's Wenyi Ding (63-64, 17-under 127).
Maxwell Ford (65-68) is tied for sixth at 11-under 133, Fountain (68-66) is tied for 13th at 10-under 134, Menante (65-70) is tied for 18th at 9-under 135 and Greaser (70-66) is tied for 24th at 8-under 136. Roberts (67-74) is tied for 60th.
The final round of the Amer Ari Invitational is Saturday.
