TALLAHASSEE, FLA.—Anuj Watane won the clinching match as No. 27 North Carolina's men's tennis team picked up a big road win at No. 13 Florida State, 4-2 on Friday evening.
After the Seminoles won the doubles point and the first singles match to take a 2-0 lead, the Tar Heels stormed to four consecutive singles wins to pick up their seventh win in the last eight matches.
Watane won the clincher in an epic, second-set tiebreaker against Alex Bulte. Watane won the first set, 6-4, then won the second, 7-6 (12-10).
Phillip Jordan picked up the first singles win for Carolina with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Youcef Rihane at No. 3. Benjamin Kittay followed with a come-from-behind, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Loris Pourrroy. Patrick Schoen made it 3-2 Tar Heels when he won, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 over J Dous-Karpenschif.
