March 22, 2024 | Wrestling
KANSAS CITY, MO. – Lachlan McNeil advanced to the semifinals and earned All-America status for the second-straight season, on day two of the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
The redshirt-sophomore became the program's 58th All-America wrestler. In addition, McNeil is the 15th Tar Heel with multiple All-America finishes, and the 12th Carolina wrestler with back-to-back podium finishes.
With the match tied at one-all in the quarterfinals, McNeil was able to avenge a December regular season loss to Iowa's third-ranked Real Woods, picking up the takedown with just seconds remaining to earn the 4-1 decision.
In the semifinals, McNeil would fall to Penn State's Beau Bartlett by decision, 5-1.
In consolation bracket action, the trio of Tyler Eischens (174), Gavin Kane (184) and Max Shaw (197) dropped close matchups to conclude their tournament.
