Softball Splits Doubleheader With Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The North Carolina softball team (26-14, 7-10 ACC) split its doubleheader at Pitt (13-26, 4-14 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at Vartabedian Field, taking game one, 7-2, before dropping game two, 8-2.
Graduate Autumn Owen came out blazing in her first appearance in an ACC series since March 24, hitting three home runs, two in game one, combining for four RBIs on the day.
The Tar Heels hits five home runs in the doubleheader, three off Owen's bat and one from both graduate students Lexi Godwin and Abby Settlemyre.
In the game one win, sophomore pitcher Kenna Raye Dark (7-4) threw her ninth complete game of the season, allowing just three hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts. It was her fourth victory in conference play.
With the Tar Heels' win, head coach Megan Smith Lyon secured her 500th D1 win.
Redshirt junior Britton Rogers (8-5) took the loss in game two, allowing seven hits, seven runs, five earned, with one strikeout in 3.1 innings.
Junior Carlie Myrtle made her first appearance in the circle since Feb. 23, just her second appearance of the season, throwing 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one run off a solo home run with one strikeout.
Senior Skyler Brooks had the Tar Heels' standout performance at the plate in the second game, going 3-of-4 at the plate. Graduate student Destiny Middleton and Lexi Godwin each had a pair of hits in the second game.
Up next, the Tar Heels will look to clinch the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACCNX.
