Track & Field Shine At Charlotte Invitational: Multiple Wins And Top-Three Finishes Highlight Day One

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Tar Heels won three events and had five other top-three finishes in throwing and distance events on Friday on the first day of the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.
The Charlotte Invitational kicked off with strong performances in the field events. Spencer Williams claimed a well-earned third place in the men's discus.Â
On the women's side, Gracie Bolick excelled in the hammer throw, clinching first place.
Fatima Alanis and Ava Dobson made notable strides in their middle-distance races. Alanis finished the event with a new personal best of 4:22.94, securing second place, while Dobson was close behind, finishing third with a time of 4:25.42.Â
Alanis and Dobson also excelled in the 5000m race. Alanis secured second place with a time of 16:25.38. , Dobson earned third place with a time of 16:30.90
Sydney Masciarelli was a highlight in the 3000m steeplechase, where she secured second place with a personal best time of 10:26.27. This performance not only improved her previous records but also placed her among the top 10 all-time performers for UNC.
The men's 800m race concluded in a dramatic photo finish with Andrew Regnier narrowly edging out his competitors by just 0.02 seconds to take the win.Ella Auderset triumphed in the women's 800m.
The Tar Heels will wrap up the competition at the Charlotte Invitational with a full day on Saturday. They will compete at the Liberty Qualifier on Wednesday, May 1st. The Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships will be held in two weeks on May 9-11 in Atlanta, GA.
