April 9, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina women's lacrosse player Alyssa Long has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first such honor of her career and first by a Tar Heel this season.
Long had a career performance on Saturday in Carolina's 13-9 victory over Virginia Tech on Senior Day. The midfielder had a game-high six goals on seven shots, also adding one assist for a seven-point effort to lead all players.
Her six goals doubled her career high, as she had previously scored three goals five times prior. Long's seven points behind six goals and one assist was also a new career high, besting her previous of five from the season opener on Feb. 10.
A native of Springfield, Pennsylvania, Long became the first Tar Heel to score six goals in a single game since April 28, 2023. She also had two draw controls in the contest.Â
The senior co-captain has started every game the past two seasons and has amassed 27 goals, nine assists, 36 points and 26 draw controls so far in 2024. She has already set new single-game season highs in goals, assists and points.Â
Long and the Tar Heels return to action on Saturday, April 13, at Pittsburgh.Â
