CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two North Carolina women's lacrosse players in Alyssa Long and Emily Nalls have received IWLCA All-South Region First Team honors, as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.
This marks the third consecutive year Nalls has earned All-Region First Team praise, and the second for Long. Â
Named a top-25 nominee for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award for the second year in a row, Nalls finished the 2024 season with a team-leading 28 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls, also ranking second with a career-high 60 draw controls. The graduate defender even added two goals and an assist.Â
Furthermore, Nalls started all 88 games of her college career, the most among all active Division I players. Her 88 starts is tied for second-most in program history.Â
Holding down Carolina's midfield unit was Long, who capped off her senior season with career-highs in goals (32), assists (10) and points (42). Long ranked second on the team in goals and fourth in points, and she dished out the game-winning assist at Virginia in the ACC opener.
She recorded a career-high six goals and seven points against Virginia Tech, a performance which earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week accolades back in April.Â
Long and Nalls were part of a four-person co-captain contingent for the Tar Heels this past season.
