Three Tar Heels Advance To NCAA Singles Second Round

STILLWATER, OKLA. — Five Tar Heels began competition in the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship on Monday.
To begin the day, Anika Yarlagadda became the first Tar Heel to move on to the second round after she defeated Oyinlomo Quadre (FIU), 6-0, 5-7, 7-5.
A few hours later, Elizabeth Scotty won her first round match against Angelica Blake (Stanford), 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) to join Yarlagadda in the second round.
Lastly, fifth-ranked singles player Fiona Crawley quickly joined her teammates in the round of 32 after she defeated Cristina Tiglea (Texas Tech), 6-2, 6-0 on Monday evening.
Carson Tanguilig and Reilly Tran fell in her first round matchups.
The 2024 NCAA Singles Championship takes place each day this week with one round of play happening each day and the championship match taking place on Saturday, May 25.
Tomorrow, the 2024 NCAA Doubles Championship begins is tandem with the Singles Championship. The reigning national champion duo of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig are slated to compete against UCLA's Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle in the first round.
Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran are the second Carolina duo to earn a bid to the tournament. They are slated to face the Florida International tandem of Katerina Mandelikova and Oyinlomo Quadre in the first round.
The Doubles Championship will take place over the next few days with one round happening each day and the championship match taking place on Saturday, May 25.
