Women's Golf Moves Up To 3rd At NCAA Regional

Sophomore Inez Ng eagled the 18th hole (her ninth hole of the round) and birdied two of her final three holes to lead the University of North Carolina with a 2-under 70 in the second round of the NCAA Auburn Women's Golf Regional Tuesday at the Auburn University Club.
Ng's 70 and fifth-year senior Kayla Smith's second straight even-par round helped the Tar Heels improve by eight strokes from yesterday's opening round. Carolina shot 4-over 292 today and is third in the 12-team field at 16 over par.
The top five teams after Wednesday's third round advance to the NCAA Championship May 17-22 in Carlsbad, Calif.
Auburn leads the regional at 1 over par after shooting 1 under par on Tuesday. Houston is second at 15 over, UNC, sixth after Monday's first round, is third at +16, Oregon is 19 over and Georgia and Tulsa are tied for fifth at 20 over. South Carolina is seventh at 22 over par.
Smith (72-72) is fifth in the individual standings at even-par 144. She trails Houston's Moa Svedenskiold (72-69) by three strokes.
Megan Streicher (71-74) is tied for sixth place at 1-over 145 and Ng (80-70) is tied for 21st at 6-over 222.
Smith and freshman Ing Iadpluem led the Heels in the second round with four birdies apiece.
