
Kayla Smith Wins North Carolina Amateur

Kayla Smith, a two-time All-ACC honoree at the University of North Carolina, birdied three of her final six holes Thursday to win the 2024 North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship at the Mooresville Golf Club.

The Burlington native completed her collegiate career last month with a top-30 finish in the NCAA Championship. She made five birdies and only one bogey today to shoot her second straight 4-under-par 68.

Smith shot 72-68-68 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 8-under 208, three strokes ahead of Macy Pate, a rising sophomore at Wake Forest.

Smith becomes the eighth current or former Tar Heel to win the North Carolina Women's Amateur joining Nicole Adam, Sally Austin, Kelly Beck, Page Marsh, Amber Marsh, Bryana Nguyen and current assistant coach Katherine (Perry) Hamski, who won in 2009 and 2011.
