Graduate Transfer Fuerst Signs With Softball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina softball head coach Megan Smith Lyon announced the addition of graduate transfer catcher Rachael Fuerst on Tuesday. Fuerst, a graduate transfer from Pitt, will spend her final remaining year of eligibility with the Tar Heels this fall.

During her three seasons in Pittsburgh, she played in 77 games, making 37 starts at catcher. She recorded 24 hits, nine runs, three doubles, a triple, five home runs, 18 RBIs and 11 walks and owns a .211 career batting average.

As a junior in 2024, Fuerst batted .224 with five of her 11 hits going for extra bases, including two doubles, two home runs and a triple.Â

In addition to joining her former Pitt teammate Kat Rodriguez this season in Chapel Hill, Fuerst also joins Rayna Blackwell (Charlotte), Lindsay Lumsden (Campbell), Shelby Barbee (Virginia), Grace Jackson (Princeton) and Lexie Roberts (Radford) as the Tar Heels' seven transfer additions this off season.

Fuerst will be graduating from Pitt this summer with a degree in political science with a minor in law criminal justice and society.Â
