Brynn Brown Named Women’s National Athlete Of The Week

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Brynn Brown earned her first accolade of the season when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named her Women's National Athlete of the Week on Monday, Sept. 16.
Brown's electric start to the season saw her win the Virginia Invitational this weekend. In that race, she played a critical role in helping the Tar Heels win too and also sweep their competition for a second straight weekend.
Her 5K time showed significant improvement from her first outing of the season. She posted a personal record of 20.5 seconds this weekend, shattering her season-best time by 51 seconds from the Charlotte Invitational two weeks ago.
In the Virginia Invitational, the Tar Heels defeated Norfolk State, Alabama-Huntsville, and Virginia. With that stellar performance, the women's team leapfrogged Virginia in the USTFCCCA Regional ranking into second place, behind only North Carolina State University. That's a jump for the Tar Heels from their preseason ranking of fourth.
