Men's Golf Tied For 2nd At Olympia Fields

David Ford shot 2-under-par to lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to a tie for second place after round one of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Friday at the Olympia Fields Country Club (Ill.).
The Tar Heels shot 1-under-279 and are tied with Florida and Georgia Tech, six strokes behind day one leader Arizona State. The second-ranked Sun Devils finished 7 under par.
Ford made four birdies en route to his 43rd career round in the 60s and is tied for third place four strokes behind Georgia Tech's Benjamin Reuter and Arizona State's Jose Luis Ballester.
Maxwell Ford, who also made four birdies, and freshman Grant Roscich both shot even-par 70s and Hampton Roberts (71) was 1-over.
The Tar Heels won at Olympia Fields in two of the previous three seasons, including last fall.
Round two is Saturday and the 54-hole event concludes Sunday.
