Roberts' 66 Leads Men's Golf To Third-Place Finish At Olympia Fields

Hampton Roberts shot a career-best 66 in the second round and Keaton Vo was 2 under in the third and final round to help lead the North Carolina men's golf team to a tie for third place in the 2024 Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The Tar Heels tied Oklahoma State for third at 1-under 839. Georgia Tech was 8 under par over the final round to claim the team title by a stroke over Arizona State. The Yellow Jackets totaled 12-under 828 with the Sun Devils second at 11 under par.
Texas rounded out the top five at 3 over par. Fourteen of the 15 teams in the field came into the event nationally ranked, while UNC was one of four to shoot below par as a team over 54 holes.
The Sun Devils' Jose Luis Ballester opened with rounds of 64-66 and was the medalist at 10-under 200.
Carolina's David Ford (68-67-72) tied for sixth at 3-under 207, his 21st top-10 finish as a Tar Heel.
Roberts (71-66-72) shot his best 18-hole round on Saturday morning and tied for 14th, his best collegiate finish, at 1-under 209.
Freshman Grant Roscich (70-73-71) tied for 32nd at 4-over 214, Vo tied for 44th at 6 over and Maxwell Ford tied for 48th at 7 over.
Vo shot 71-68 over the final two holes and had the Tar Heels best round of the final 18 holes.
The Tar Heels return to competition September 30 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
