Moore, Scott Finish Runner-Up At Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Spencer Moore and Jayden Scott finished runner-up, on the final day of 2025 Southern Scuffle.

In total, five Tar Heels placed in the two-day tournament: two second-place efforts, one third-place finish, and two sixth-place results.

In the 125-pound semifinals, Moore defeated Anthony Molton of Campbell by decision, 6-3, to clinch his spot in the championship bout. Meeting Northern Colorado's 10th-ranked Stevo Poulin in the title match, Moore fell behind after a first-period takedown and second-period reversal, finishing runner-up.

After dropping a 4-1 decision against Northern Colorado's 15th-ranked Dom Serrano, Ethan Oakley responded with an 11-3 major decision in the consolation semifinals.

In the third-place match, Oakley used a sudden victory takedown against Kyle Burwick of North Dakota State, to clinch the third-place effort.

Scott matched up with Army's Richard Treanor in the semifinals, a 5-2 decision in favor of the Tar Heel 141-pounder. In the championship bout, Virginia's Dylan Cedeno utilized an escape and riding time point to clip Scott in the match, 2-0.

At 184 pounds, Marcus Murabito fell in a close semifinal match to AJ Heeg of Northern Colorado, 4-2. Moving into the consolation semifinals, No. 22 DJ Parker of Oklahoma defeated Murabito, 6-4, followed by Virginia Tech's No. 25 TJ Stewart's 10-6 victory in the fifth-place match.

Battling through the consolation bracket, Cade Lautt earned an 8-1 victory against Oklahoma's Bradley Hill to begin the day. In the consolation semifinals, Lautt was defeated by fall against Wolfgang Frable of Army, and No. 25 Levi Hopkins of Campbell was victorious by major decision in the ensuing fifth-place match.

As a team, Carolina finished the two-day tournament in fourth place with 91 points.
