XC Wraps Regular Season In Wisconsin, Beating Five Ranked Squads

MADISON, WIS – Carolina cross country closed out the regular season Friday in Madison.
Men's Championship Recap
For the second race in a row, Tomer Terragano and Colton Sands led the way for the Tar Heels, as the team finished above five ranked teams, finishing 14th out of 32 teams. The duo both finished in the top 25. Sands finished in 15th, and Terragano rounded out the top 25. Carolina had the best finish of an unranked team on the day as they finished ahead of No. 1 Iowa State, No. 18 Stanford, No. 24 Georgetown, No. 26 Eastern Kentucky, and No. 27 Tulsa.
Women's Championship Recap
Coming off her World Championship appearance, Vera Sjöberg made her Carolina debut. She crossed the 2k timing mat in 13th place, staying in the lead pack. Sjöberg moved up to fifth after the 4k marker. She ultimately finished sixth, leading the Tar Heels in her debut. Carolina finished in 19th overall beating No. 28 Providence. Every runner improved from their initial 2k positioning. Maddie Gardiner moved up 40 total positions. Logan St. John-Kotter improved 34 spots.
Men's "B" Race Recap
Jacob Laney (24:40.9) and Luke Pash (25:51.1) ran in the "B" Race to open the competition at the Zimmer Championship Course. The duo improved throughout the entire race from their opening position, with Laney staying patient as he moved through the field of runners. After the 2k marker, Laney checked in at 66th over, but moved up to 15th at the halfway marker and then continued to climb as he crossed the finish line in ninth. Pash made his college debut, improving from 68th to 57th over the course of the race.
Carolina will race again at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on Halloween.
