Notre Dame's Nate Stevens won his first individual collegiate title and Florida claimed the team trophy by a dozen shots Tuesday in the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.
Stevens, a senior from Northfield, Minn., shot 70-67-72 for a 7-under 209 to edge Texas' Daniel Bennett by a stroke. The Gators' Luke Poulter and Zack Swanwick tied for third at 5-under 211 and North Carolina's Niall Sheils Donegan was fifth at 4-under 212.
The Gators ran away with the team title to become the first team other than the host Tar Heels to win a Williams Cup, an event in its fifth year that honors former UNC men's basketball coach Roy Williams and his wife, Wanda.
Florida shot 12-under-par 276 in each of the first two rounds and closed with a 9-over 297 for a total of 15-under 849.
Texas was second at 3-under 290, while the Tar Heels tied Louisville for third at 9-over 873. Carolina carded rounds of 286-297-290.
Louisville shot the low team round of the final day with a 6-under 282. The Cardinals were the only team in the field to shoot under par today.
Sheils Donegan (68-72-72) posted his first top-five finish as a Tar Heel. Sophomore Grant Roscich shot 71, Carolina's low round of the day.
Carson Bertagnole (71-73-74) tied for 17th at 2-over 218 and Roscich (72-77-71) tied for 22nd at 4-over 220.
