Men’s Swimming Edged By One Point, Women Fall At Virginia

Charlottesville, Va. – The University of North Carolina men's swimming team pushed Virginia to the limit on Friday in Charlottesville but the Cavaliers edged the Tar Heels 145-144. The women's dual meet saw Virginia down Carolina 203-90.

Ben Delmar led the way for the men, posting the nation's top time in the 200 breast at 1:52.61 to claim victory. He also placed second in the 100 breast in 52.23 and third in the 200 IM (1:46.01). Delmar was nipped at the 100 breast finish by fellow Heel Xavier Ruiz, who won in 51.92. Ruiz put up the nation's second-fastest time in the 200 breast in finishing second at 1:53.16. Louis Dramm won the 200 IM in 1:43.24, while Josh Parent claimed the 1,000 free with a time of 9:03.19. Parent also finished second in the 500 free in 4:22.68.

Mary Macaulay paced the women's squad finishing second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.17. Kamryn Meskill took second in the 50 free at 22.33, while Michaela Chokureva was the runner-up in the 100 free, clocking a 49.51. Emma Karam added a third-place finish in the 100 back at 52.44 and Lily Reader did the same in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:50.44.

The Heels will be back in action in two weeks when they head to Columbia for a dual meet with South Carolina. Events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
