Women’s Tennis Opens ITA Sectionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's tennis opened the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Sectional Thursday at Chewning Tennis Center.
Alanis Hamilton and Theadora Rabman picked up dominant, straight-set wins to get the Tar Heels started in singles play. The pair advances to the singles round of 16 on Friday.
Partners Alana Boyce and Tatum Evans picked up the lone doubles win for the Tar Heels in the opening round of Sectional play. Thursday's win advances the duo to the quarterfinals.

Alanis Hamilton will compete in the singles round of 16 beginning at 11:15 a.m. Theadora Rabman will also play in the round of 16 at 11:45 a.m. Despite falling in her first match of the weekend, Alana Boyce will continue play in the singles consolation bracket. The sophomore is set to compete at 11:45 a.m. on Friday.
In doubles, Alana Boyce and Tatum Evans will begin quarterfinals play at 3:30 p.m. Partners Theadora Rabman and Claire Hill will continue doubles play in the consolation bracket Friday at 3:30 p.m.
ITA Sectionals
ITA Sectionals will take place at four different sections/sites across the country. Sectionals is also an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Doubles and Singles Championships. This tournament will qualify six singles players from each section (semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners) while three doubles teams from each section will qualify (champion, finalist, and third place).
