
Tar Heels Shutout Pirates, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- In its first of two matches on Thursday, and its first home match since late January, the No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels (10-3) defeated the ECU Pirates (2-6), 7-0 at Chewning Tennis Center.
North Carolina quickly gained the doubles point advantage after Carson Tanguilig and Theadora Rabman won 6-0 on court two. Then, on court one, Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.
Transitioning to singles play, the Tar Heels were represented by four freshmen, a sophomore, and senior Carson Tanguilig.
Despite its youth, Carolina remained in control of the match. The Tar Heels won the first set on each court and kept the momentum going in the second set.
Alana Boyce, on court four, gave Carolina its second point of the match after she won in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-0. A few moments later, Claire Hill joined Boyce with her own straight-set victory (6-1, 6-1) on court five. On court six, Susanna Maltby continued the freshmen straight-set run with a 6-0, 6-2 win to clinch the match for North Carolina.
Despite clinching the match, Carson Tanguilig, Alanis Hamilton and Theadora Rabman each picked up wins on their respective courts.
