MTEN Sweeps Campbell & NC Central

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—North Carolina picked up a pair of shutout wins on Tuesday, sweeping a home doubleheader against in-state foes Campbell and North Carolina Central by 4-0 scores in both matches.
With the victories, the Tar Heels improved to 4-2 this season. Campbell dropped to 1-2 while NC Central fell to 1-3.
UNC 4, Campbell 0
In the win over the Camels, Carolina won the doubles point with quick wins by Vladislav Melnic and Chris Xu at No. 1 (6-1) and Diego Jarry and Anthony Wright at No. 2 (6-2). Patrick Schoen returned to the lineup after missing three matches and teamed with Nick Mangiapane at No. 3 doubles. The duo was leading, 4-3, when their match went unfinished.
UNC won the first set in five of six singles slots against Campbell and went on to capture three straight-set wins to clinch the team victory. Jarry eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chris Davis at No. 6, posting his singles first win as a Tar Heel. Melnic followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Aleksandar Hudjec to make the score 3-0.
Xu won the clincher at No. 3, topping Tollenaar by a score of 6-3, 6-4.

The doubles point provided plenty of drama in Tuesday's nightcap against the Eagles. After Melnic and Xu won, 6-3, at No. 1, the Eagles responded with a victory at the No. 2 position. Constantinos Djakouris and Mangiapane provided the clinching win in a tiebreaker at No. 3, 7-6 (7-5).
The Tar Heels clinched the shutout win with victories in the top three singles slots.
Xu continued his hot day with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Rodrigo Alves to make the score 2-0 UNC. Djakouris followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kareem Abdul-Hakim at No. 2 singles. Melnic won the clinching match by retirement over Hugo Hidalgo-Vega.
