Knoxville, Tenn. – The University of North Carolina's JT Schmid had his eyes on the 200-backstroke school record and came as close as possible to setting it on the final day of the Tennessee Last chance meet on Saturday. Schmid, who was eyeing the 1:40.83 mark, turned in a personal best of 1:40.84 to move to No. 2 all-time at UNC.

Elizabeth Sowards took advantage of another opportunity and turned in a personal best of 51.73 in the 100 back. That mark moves her to No. 6 all-time at UNC and would've been good enough to qualify for last year's NCAA Championship.

Next up, the diving crew will head to Auburn, Ala. March 9-12 for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, while the swimmers will await confirmation of qualifiers for the NCAA Championship meets later this month.
