David Ford In The Lead At Tar Heel Intercollegiate
April 12, 2025 | Men's Golf
North Carolina's David Ford, the top-ranked player in the nation, overcame a slow start to shoot 6-under 64 in the second round to take a one-stroke lead after 36 holes in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Saturday at Finley Golf Club.
Â
Three Kennesaw State players shot in the 60s in the second round to take a four-shot lead into Sunday's final round.
Â
Claes Borregaard led the Owls in the afternoon with a 66, Kyle Bachkosky shot 68-69 for 3-under 137 and Hunter Gillard shot 67 in round two to tie Borregaard for fourth place at 1-under 139.
Â
Ford shot 2-over 72 in the first round but bounced back in round two with five birdies, an eagle and only one bogey. The 72 snapped a streak of six consecutive rounds in the 60s, but the 64 was the third time in his last seven rounds he shot 64 or better.
Â
The senior from Peachtree Corners, Ga., has won each of his last two tournaments to set the single-season UNC record with four wins. He has six career victories, one shy of Dustin Bray's school-best seven.
Â
Kennesaw State shot 284-273 for a 3-under 857. The Tar Heels (280-281) are second at 1-over, Elon is third at 8 over par, and Jacksonville and UCF are tied for fourth at 11 over.
Â
Ford leads Bachkosky by one, UCF's Hans Risvaer by two and Gillard and Borregaard by three.
Â
Carolina's Maxwell Ford (71-69) and Sihan Sandhu (68-72) are among a quartet of players tied for seventh at even-par 140. Keaton Vo (68-75) is tied for 22nd at 3-over 143.
Â
Sunday's final round begins at 8:15 a.m. (the Tar Heels are paired with Kennesaw State and Elon in groupings that begin at 9:44 a.m).
Â
Admission is free; parking is available at the Finley North lot by the soccer and lacrosse fields with shuttles bringing patrons to the clubhouse by the first and 10th tees.
