Women’s Tennis Posts Shutout Against Stanford In ACC Quarterfinal, 4-0
April 18, 2025 | Women's Tennis
CARY, N.C. – Opening up its action at the 2025 ACC Women's Tennis Championship in Cary, No. 2 seed North Carolina swept No. 7 seed Stanford, 4-0, for its second sweep over the Cardinal this season and its third consecutive 4-0 victory.
"Before this year as a program we had only beaten Stanford once," said head coach Brian Kalbas. "To beat them two times in less than a few weeks shows this program how well it is and how well they're playing. Anytime you play with the expanded ACC, every match is going to be tough. To beat Stanford and get to the semis, is great for us. We are excited."
Carolina has won 14 of its last 15 matches and sits at 22-4 overall, as it advances to Saturday's semifinal matchup against in-state foe NC State.
The Tar Heels came out raring to go, with Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton fending off a challenge from the Cardinal to clinch the first doubles match of the day on No. 1 at 6-2. The duo is now 15-2 overall this season. Quickly after on No. 3, Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 to improve to 8-3 this year.
Carolina has clinched the doubles point in 23 out of 24 matches throughout the 2024-25 campaign.
Running off with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win on No. 5, Carson Tanguilig earned Carolina's first singles point of the afternoon and cruised to her 26th win of the year.
Rabman followed up shortly after winning her match in straight sets at 6-1, 6-1 to put Carolina on the verge of defeating the Cardinal, ahead 3-0.
With teammates Brantmeier and Tatum Evans forcing third sets on No. 1 and No. 2, Claire Hill came in big down the stretch with a 6-3, 6-4 win on No. 6 to clinch the match and send the Cardinal packing.
