Britton Rogers Shoves As Softball Clinches Series Over Notre Dame With 2-1 Win
April 26, 2025 | Softball
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Carolina softball (38-14, 14-9 ACC) secured its seventh ACC series win of the year on Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 win over Notre Dame.
Britton Rogers dominated on the day, tossing her fifth complete game of the year while striking out six along the way and not allowing an earned run. Rogers pulled one Houdini act after another, stranding eight Fighting Irish on base.
The Tar Heels offense got runners on first and second in the third, and Sanaa Thompson came through in a major way, plating Lexie Roberts to give them a 1-0 lead.
Needing a shutdown inning to keep momentum on the Carolina side, Rogers got three outs on just 12 pitches to shut the Fighting Irish down in order.
The game would stay 1-0 until the sixth when some small ball from Notre Dame allowed them to tie things up at 1-1.
After an Alex Coleman leadoff single, a Kat Rodriguez walk, and Thompson reaching on an error, the bases were loaded for Carlie Myrtle who did her job and got a sacrifice fly to give UNC the lead.
Rogers came out for the seventh and shut down Notre Dame in order to clinch the 2-1 victory for the Tar Heels.
The win lowered her team-best ERA to 3.98. She now has 62 strikeouts on the year.
Carolina looks to sweep the series in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
