Knapp Named ABCA First Team All-America
June 13, 2025 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina baseball ace Jake Knapp added yet another award to his trophy case as the American Baseball Coaches Association tabbed him as a first team All-American on Friday.
Â
It is the third All-America honor for Knapp so far this offseason, claiming a first team nod from the NCBWA and second team from Perfect Game. He is the first Tar Heel pitcher to earn multiple first team honors in the same season since Josh Hiatt in 2017.
Â
The 2025 National Pitcher of the Year was phenomenal this season in battling back from Tommy John surgery that took away his 2024 campaign. His 14-0 record is both the best in the country and the best in program history, as he finished with the most wins without defeat ever by a Tar Heel. He wrapped up his season with a 2.02 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched, two complete games, 88 strikeouts, and only 16 walks.
Â
His 0.86 WHIP was third best nationally and just .03 away from breaking the program record. He went over a month in the heart of the season without allowing a walk, going 27 straight IP across four starts. He would not allow a free pass in six of his appearances, including four of his last five.
Â
First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams are selected by the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committee. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first team selections, which were announced June 10, were eligible for All-America honors.
