Four Tar Heels Selected To Represent U.S. At World Games
June 17, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse program has had four Tar Heels selected to represent the United States at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China this August. Team U.S.A. veterans Ally Mastroianni, UNC assistant coach Marie McCool and Taylor Moreno will be joined by national-team newcomer Chloe Humphrey for this tournament.
Â
Mastroianni and McCool were both a part of the U.S. team that won the World Championship in 2022. Mastroianni and Moreno each won Box World Championships with Team U.S.A in 2024.
Â
The World Games, a quadrennial Olympic-style event, utilizes the sixes discipline of the sport, a fast-paced, small-sided version of lacrosse that includes just six players for each team on the field at a time, resulting in smaller roster sizes than the traditional field version of the game.
Â
This edition of The World Games will feature up to 5,000 athletes competing in 34 sports and will feature women's lacrosse as a medal sport for the third time. The United States won the inaugural World Games gold medal in 2017, beating Canada 11-8 in the championship game of a full-field 10v10 format in Wroclaw, Poland. In 2022, Canada beat the U.S. 14-12 in the championship game in the sixes discipline in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
The U.S. team next gathers for a staging camp in Los Angeles from Aug. 1-3 before heading to China for The World Games.
