Rowing’s Sagues & Volleyball’s Thorpe Named To ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As the start of the new school year is almost here, the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the members of its 2025-26 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board. This group will represent more than 12,200 ACC student-athletes. Representing Carolina are Carmen Sagues from rowing and Chelsea Thorpe from volleyball.
Each of the ACC's member schools nominate SAAC representatives, with the executive board members elected through a conference-wide vote of their peers.
Entering her senior season at UNC, Sagues is coming off her best season on the water for the Tar Heels. This past spring, Sagues competed with the V8 crew all season as she went on to earn second-team All-ACC honors. She assisted the V8 to a first-place finish in the petite finals the ACC Championship. The biomedical engineering major also picked up a plethora of academic honors, being named a member of the ACC All-Academic Team, a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and to the Collegiate Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District Team.
Thorpe has already made a strong impact in Chapel Hill as she begins her second season as a Tar Heel. As a redshirt sophomore last fall, the outside hitter appeared in all 31 matches for Carolina as they reached its first NCAA Tournament since 2021. Thorpe wrapped her season with 13 matches in double-digit kills as she accumulated 290 total and added on 55 blocks.
The ACC SAAC serves as the student-athlete voice between conference leadership, providing insight on legislative decisions, community engagement initiatives and the overall student-athlete experience.
