Senior Keaton Vo made an eagle in each round Monday and shot a second-round 67 to lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to second place after day one in the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Ill.
UNC shot 3-under 277 in the morning and 7-under 273 in the afternoon to head into Tuesday's final round of stroke play four shots behind LSU. The Tigers were one of two teams that finished round one a stroke behind Carolina and then shot 12 under par in the afternoon to grab the overnight lead.
The Tar Heels rallied from 6 over par through 12 holes to finish the opening round 3 under par. Carolina played the final four holes in 11 under led by Riley's four birdies, Sihan Sandhu's three birdies and Vo's eagle and birdie.
Riley, a graduate transfer from North Florida, shot 5-under 65 in the morning. He carded a 1-over 71 in the afternoon and is fifth overall at 4-under 136.
Vo (71-67) is tied for eighth at 2-under 138, freshman Carson Bertagnole (70-69) is tied for 11th at 1-under 139 and Niall Sheils Donegan (72-68) and Sihan Sandhu (71-69) are tied for 15th at even par.
Sheils Donegan was making his UNC debut after playing two seasons at Northwestern. He was unavailable to play in Carolina's season-opening tournament as he was playing for Team Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup vs. Team United States.
LSU is 14 under through 36 holes with Carolina four back at 12 under. Arizona is third (-5), Texas fourth (-4), SMU fifth (-2) and Northwestern sixth (-1).
All six teams will play a final round of stroke play on Tuesday. The top two teams advance to Wednesday's match play championship.

LSU's Noah McWilliams (64-67) is the individual leader at 9-under 131.
