CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced women's tennis weekly awards Tuesday afternoon. Reese Brantmeier was tabbed Player of the Week, and doubles pair Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton were named Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the first weekly award for both so far this season.
Brantmeier entered the spring ranked no. 1 in singles after winning the NCAA Singles National Championship. The senior has continued to live up to that ranking by downing her competition in dominant fashion. Brantmeier is off to a 3-0 start this season in singles picking up two ranked wins. The Whitewater, Wisc. native earned the ACC nod after topping no. 30 Vivian Yang from no. 14 Virginia (6-1, 6-2) and no. 72 Ni Xi from Charlotte (6-0, 6-0). Brantmeier's play helped Carolina secure their first ranked win as a team this season in the match against no. 14 Virginia.
In doubles action, Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton entered the spring season ranked no. 11 and have since gone 4-0 with two ranked wins. The pair picked up their highest ranked win so far this spring against no. 10 Xu/Genis Salas, 6-3, from Virginia. The duo also topped the no. 47 ranked pair from Charlotte, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point for UNC in the match against Charlotte. The Tar Heels' win against Charlotte also earned the team a spot in the ITA Team National Indoor Championship.
