No. 3 Women’s Tennis Downs No. 1 Georgia, 5-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 3 University of North Carolina women's tennis took on the defending National Champions, no. 1 Georgia, at Chewning Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels put together an impressive, all-around performance taking down the top-ranked Bulldogs, 5-2.
Carolina dropped the first doubles match of the day but bounced back to take the second. No. 3 Oby Kajuru/Susanna Maltby grinded out a 6-4 win over their opponents from Georgia to keep UNC alive in the race for the doubles point. No. 11 Reese Brantmeier/Alanis Hamilton faced Mert/Dilek from Georgia in the deciding doubles match. The Tar Heels went on to win, 6-3, giving Carolina the doubles point. UNC headed into singles play with the 1-0 advantage.
In dominant fashion, Anna Frey downed no. 50 Sofia Rojas in straight sets to begin singles action. This win marked the first ranked win of Frey's collegiate career.
The Bulldogs countered with a singles win to bring the score to 2-1.
No. 69 Alanis Hamilton dropped her first set before storming back to win in three sets. Hamilton's win extended the Tar Heels' lead to 3-1.
Yet again, it was no. 1 Reese Brantmeier in the position to clinch the match for Carolina. The senior narrowly escaped the first set winning in a tie break. Brantmeier went on to win the second set securing a singles win and team win for the Tar Heels. UNC led 4-1 with two matches left to finish.
The Tar Heels split the remaining singles matches resulting in a 5-2 overall team win.
The final singles win of the day for Carolina featured a marathon match between no. 35 Tatum Evans and no. 15 Deniz Dilek. After three back and forth sets, Evans locked in her sixth win of the season.
