Women’s Tennis Rolls Past No. 24 Duke, 4-1

DURHAM, N.C. – No. 5 University of North Carolina women's tennis rolled past No. 24 Duke, 4-1, Wednesday evening in Durham. The Tar Heels picked up their seventh ACC win while handing Duke their first home loss of the season.
Carolina got off to a slower start in doubles after Tatum Evans and Maddy Zampardo dropped the first match on court three. No. 4 Oby Kajuru and Susanna Maltby got the Tar Heels back in the game with a 6-4 win on court one. No. 3 Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton then picked up a ranked win over no. 84 Eleana Yu and Claire An. The duo's win clinched the doubles point for UNC giving the team a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
The Blue Devils evened the score after earning a singles win on court four over no. 111 Anna Frey.
No. 2 Reese Brantmeier won the first set before being tied 5-5 in a close second set. The senior grinded out the win, 7-5, to earn a ranked win over no. 15 Irina Balus. The Tar Heels regained the lead 2-1 after Brantmeier's win.
No. 8 Oby Kajuru took a straight-set win over no. 77 Aspen Schuman to extend Carolina's lead at 3-1.
On court six, no. 108 Alanis Hamilton battled to win the first set over her opponent, 7-5. The sophomore kept the momentum rolling to cruise to a 6-2 win in the second set to secure the win for UNC.
