Cavaliers Edge Tar Heels In ACC Men's Golf Match Play
April 27, 2026 | Men's Golf
Virginia's Josh Duangmanee sank a 20-foot birdie on the first extra hole to win his match and deliver the Cavaliers a 3-2 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels Monday morning in the semifinals of the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Golf Championship.
The match was suspended Sunday evening due to darkness. UVA advances to the championship match where it will play Stanford.
Duangmanee's winning putt came one hole after Carolina sophomore Grant Roscich drained a 20-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation to force a playoff.
UNC's two points in the match came from freshman Carson Bertagnole, a 2&1 winner over Ben James, who is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the world, and Andrew Riley, who won on the 19th hole.
Bertagnole won the 15th and 16th holes to take a 1-up lead on James and closed the match with a par on the 17th.
Riley led 2 up through six but fell behind Michael Lee for the first time on the 13th hole. Riley birdied the 14th hole to even the match, which he won by making a 30-foot birdie on the 19th hole.
Next up for the ninth-ranked Tar Heels is an NCAA regional May 18-20.
