June 10, 2026 | Men's Golf
PING (Golf Coaches Association of America) and Golfweek have both selected a pair of University of North Carolina men's golfers – Carson Bertagnole and Niall Sheils Donegan – to their 2026 All-America teams.
Sheils Donegan, a junior from Mill Valley, Calif., earned second-team honors, while Bertagnole, a freshman from Pinehurst, N.C., made the third teams.
This is the fourth time in the last five seasons two or more Tar Heels earned at least third-team All-America honors.
Sheils Donegan led Carolina in scoring at 69.91, the fourth-best stroke average in UNC single-season history. He was a combined 48 strokes under par and his score to per round (-1.45) was the second-best ever by a Tar Heel, trailing only National Player of the Year David Ford's record-setting standard (-2.47) set last season. Sheils Donegan finished the year ranked No. 16 in the country. He won the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, had four top-five results and led the team with 14 rounds in the 60s.
Bertagnole averaged 70.19, the fifth-lowest stroke average in Tar Heel history. He was named one of five players on the GCAA's Freshman All-America team. He finished the year ranked No. 30 overall, the second-highest ranked freshman in the country. He won the Fighting Irish Classic at Notre Dame, shot in the 60s six times in the final rounds and made his PGA TOUR debut in the Puerto Rico Classic.
Bertagnole is the fifth Carolina men's golfer to earn at least third-team All-America honors as a freshman, joining Ford (third team in 2022), Peter Fountain (first team in 2021), Kevin O'Connell (third team in 2008) and Davis Love III (third team in 1983).
