General: Tri-captain of the 2001-02 men’s team…also selected as captain of the two previous Carolina swimming squads in 1999-2000 and 2000-01…is the first three-time men’s captain during Coach Frank Comfort’s tenure…a major motivational leader of the Tar Heel team…three-time returning letter winner...distance freestyle specialist ...also swims the individual medley...is one of the team’s hardest working swimmers...a Dean’s List student at Carolina ...has served on the student-athlete advisory committee both as a sophomore and a junior.
2000-2001: Fought through tremendous adversity to be a focal point of the Tar Heel team…an inexplicable force in the locker room…competed for the Tar Heels in the distance freestyles…an inspiration to all his teammates...recipient of the team’s Hill Carrow Spirit Award.
1999-2000: Redshirted due to an injury sustained in an automobile accident.
1998-99: Had the best time on the team in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:16.86...at the 1999 ACC Championships, he finished seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle and 12th in the 400-yard individual medley.
1997-98: Had a very strong freshman year...selected as the winner of the Bruce Webster Most Dedicated Swimmer Award...scored 20 points at the ACC Championships...finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.00), ninth in the 400-yard individual medley (3:59.74), and 11th in the 1650-yard freestyle (15:45.32)...recorded personal bests in the 500-yard free and the 400-yard individual medley...compiled a 3.116 GPA his first year at UNC...made the Dean’s List in the fall semester of 1997...named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prep: Graduated from Walt Whitman High School on June 5, 1997...member of 1995 and 1996 United States Swimming Men’s Scholastic All-America Teams...swam for the Curl-Burke Swim Club...swam the 200 and 400 individual medleys and the 1000 and 1650 freestyles...as a club swimmer, he was the United States Swimming 400 individual medley junior national champion in 1993...was a multiple medal winner in junior national competition...ran cross country for two years in high school and was the #3 man on a state championship team...also competed in triathlons as a prepster...was named a Potomac Valley scholar-athlete from 1993 through 1997...was high school blood drive coordinator and a Montgomery County Science Fair champion...was a senior national qualifier in 1996.
