One of the Three Tar Heel Senior Leaders; One of Two Senior Divers on the 1999-2000 Tar Heel Team
General: Two-time returning letter winner for the Carolina diving team...fifth-year senior...one of only three seniors on the UNC squad...a transfer from Louisburg College where he was the cheerleading team captain from 1995 to 1997...was a member of Phi Theta Kappa fraternity at Louisburg College and received the school’s calculus award his sophomore year.
1998-99: At the 1999 ACC Championships, he finished 12th in three-meter diving and 15th in one-meter diving.
1997-98: Had a solid year for the Tar Heels...scored 11 points at the ACC Championships...finished 11th in the one-meter diving competition with 336.35 points...also finished 12th on the three-meter board with 334.70 points.
Prep: Graduated from Apex High School in Apex, N.C. in June of 1995...was a three-sport athlete at Apex...was a wrestler his sophomore and junior years, a pole vaulter his freshman year and he played football his sophomore year...claims in high school that he had the biggest, baddest jeep on campus and that he was the best four-wheeler in high school...people called Kevin when they got stuck.
Personal: Given name is Christopher Kevin Mangum...nicknamed "Big Daddy"...has one brother...born March 13, 1977 in Raleigh, N.C....son of Steve and Barbara Mangum...says the athlete he most admires is his father, Steve Mangum...hobbies include jet skiing, rock climbing, surfing, streaking, needle point and bingo...biggest sports thrills were doing dips with 180 pounds strapped to his waist and having some of the UNC football players say, "You The Man" as well as diving on the collegiate level after having only started his sophomore year in college...says he is the only redneck on the UNC campus...is also proud he is no longer the shortest guy on the team...biology major with a minor in German...wants to work for Greg Poole, selling Caterpillars or own an ant farm.
